- ~1. WHAT IS VOCABULARY MODERN?
- "The more things change, the more they stay the same." Vocabulary
- Modern is wordware designed to help the user learn more advanced vocabulary
- words with the benefit of a graphical user interface. The words in the
- program's database are typically seen on college entrance test such as the
- GRE, SAT and ACT. Using this program is an excellent tool to refresh and
- reinforce your vocabulary if you are planning on taking such a test. This
- program helps anyone learn to communicate and comprehend more intelligently.
- You will be able to target words you are having difficulty with and expose
- yourself to almost 4000 advanced vocabulary words.
-
-
- ~2. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
- Vocabulary Modern for OS/2 requires OS/2 2.0 and above, including
- Warp 3. No other version exists upon the release of OS/2 version 1.00.
-
-
- ~3. INSTALLATION
- Make any directory for this program:
- MD \VOMOD
-
- Put all the files from the distribution archive or diskette in one
- directory:
- COPY *.* \VOMOD
-
- Make sure any .DLL files, such as VOMODAT1.DLL, will be recognized by
- the program. The directory it resides in must be in the LIBPATH= statement in
- CONFIG.SYS. OS/2 will include the current directory {.} in the LIBPATH, so if
- you put the .DLL file(s) in the same directory as VOMOD.EXE and run it from
- that program, it should recognize the .DLL file(s).
-
- You may want to install this program on the desktop. In this case,
- drag an icon from the Templates folder, named "Program" to where you want it
- to reside and then change the Settings to VOMOD.EXE
-
- No extra installation is necessary.
-
-
- ~4. GETTING THE MOST OUT OF VOCABULARY MODERN
- After passing the copyright screen, the main screen is displayed with
- several choices. In the main body of the window are 53 word ranges. Select one
- word range with which to work with. When you master that range, then you can
- move on to another word range.
-
- When you have established which word range you are working with, it's a good idea to become familiar with
- the 75 words in that word range by selecting the Word-List menubar choice.
- For each of the words a typical usage is given (N.:noun, V.:verb, etc.),
- a basic definition, and the word in the context of a sentence. These are not
- comprehensive, but only used as a study guide. Consult a dictionary for more
- concise meanings or the different uses of a word. Less common usages of words
- or obvious elementary meanings may be left out.
-
- After studying the word list, the next step is to drill yourself. You
- can either guess words or guess definitions. When answering, your answer may
- be a correct variation or worded differently. In these cases it is up to you
- to decide whether or not your answer is correct. If you get words Incorrect,
- they will come up again every 15 words. If you get all the words correct after
- 75 tries, it will notify you that you have mastered that word range. The final
- step is to take the Test, which is composed of 15 antonym questions. The
- results will be tabulated in your Score.
-
- Summary:
- 1. choose a word range to work with
- 2. study the word list of that word range
- { consult a dictionary for concise meanings or
- pronunciations. }
- 3. drill the words in that word range
- { you are the final judge if a word or definition is
- correct or incorrect. }
- 4. test yourself on that word range
- 5. go to step 1
-
- Get Help by hitting F1 at any time.
-
-
